In a boost to Reliance Power’s estimated INR 20,000 crore project in Jharkhand, the government has granted initial clearances for mining coal from reserves allocated to it in the state to feed its proposed mega venture.
The Anil Ambani-led company is understood to have obtained the initial environment clearance as well and has begun the land acquisition process for developing the mines, which have estimated coal reserves of 1.2 billion tonnes allotted for the Ultra Mega Power Project in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand.

Gaya: Bihar Science and Technology Minister Anil Kumar escaped unhurt when unidentified persons fired at his vehicle during a road blockade at Dariapur in Maoist-hit Gaya district Monday night, official sources said.
According to the reports, the incident occurred when the minister was returning to Gaya after campaigning in his Atari assembly constituency. The gunmen fired at Kumar’s vehicle during the road hold-up to which the securitymen accompanying him retaliated, the sources said.
