If Marrakesh, like Jaipur, is built in red, the colours of the desert and dust storms, Essaouira, like Jodhpur, is draped in blue and white. The latter, besides being overshadowed by their more illustrious sister cities, have another thing in common – each year they are home to an incredible music festival. As I head off to attend the Rajasthan International Folk Festival, Gnawaa music is on my mind.
