Patna: according to latest reports, India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has expressed a desire to start a sports academy in Bihar and has written to the Bihar government, seeking its permission. The Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister of Bihar Sukhda Pandey told the press that Dhoni, in a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, has sought allotment of land to set up a sports academy.
According to Pandey, Dhoni has not mentioned if prefers a particular place in Bihar for the academy.  She also mentioned that at this stage Dhoni has not submitted a formal project proposal.

Pandey said ‘He would be asked to submit the same for the proposed academy, on which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar would take a final decision.’ Dhoni had represented Bihar in various cricket tournaments at the national level before bifurcation of the state in 2000. Interestingly, just a few days ago while honouring the sports persons of Bihar, Nitish Kumar had announced the state government’s decision to set up a sports academy in Bihar for promotion of various sports.

While Jharkhand has taken major strides in the field of sports infrastructure and training in recent past, it now seems to be Bihar’s turn to take the plunge.
