Chhapra takes a lifestyle plunge: into the world of apartment culture

Chhapra: according to the latest reports in the Hindi press, now the town of Chhapra has decided to take to apartment style of living. The initiative has been taken up by the Eden group whose founder Sachidanand Rai recently had the bhoomi poojan ceremony performed in the Katahari Bag locality.

The group founder used the occasion to make a list of impressive announcements. The company will make a start with two six-storied buildings with 48 flats each that will have 2-3 rooms. The flats will be well-equipped – each flat will have car parking space allotted in its name, there will be 24 hour power supply, unlimited water supply, and two lifts for each building.

Additionally, the construction will follow the national building code, and will incorporate safeguards against earthquakes and other calamities. Every flat will be connected to the security through an intercom and entry would be permitted after the occupant’s permission. The buildings will have a children’s park at the back and the terraces of the two buildings will be connected to create a common jogger’s park. If all this is not enough, the buildings will be provided with Wi-Fi facility.

Even if one were to take the lavish description with loads of salt, it seems that the smaller towns of Bihar are now making a determined entry into the new lifestyle of apartment culture. This process is likely to get a further fillip from two obvious factors – worries over security in Bihar, and the endless headaches involved in the maintenance of individual properties where ensuring adequate supply of power and water and provision for basic hygiene can be a full time job for the occupant. Given the state of the urban administration and the bureaucracy, no individual would want to face all such woes on his own. So living in an apartment also insulates the individual from the excesses of urban bureaucracy – which may be seen as just one more form of security and peace!
