Patna: according to the latest reports, all the 8,402 panchayats of the state will have their own Panchayat Sarkar Bhavan, with each of them costing  Rs 83 lakh each. In the first phase 1,765 panchayats will be covered. This was announced by CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday while kicking off the construction work of 500 panchayat buildings.

Addressing a meeting, the CM said a permanent Bihar Panchayati Raj Training Centre with its centre in each district will also be opened. “An autonomous panchayat engineering organization will be constituted to make the panchyati raj institutions more effective. The 3,161 vacant posts of panchayat secretary will soon be filled through staff selection commission and additional staff will be provided for smooth functioning of gram panchayat. In each panchayat, one additional deputy secretary, one assistant-cum-accountant and one IT operator will also be appointed,” the CM announced.

Nitish said he conceived this plan during his first stint itself. “My idea is all the activities of the panchayati raj institutions should be administered from one office and mukhiya, sarpanch and ward members have their offices there so that the concept of Panchyat Sarkar Bhavan could be fulfilled,” he said and added that the cases coming to panchayat will also be disposed off from this office which will also have a Vasudha Kendra.

Union finance minister P Chidambaram, who attended the state-level bankers’ advisory committee meeting at Rajgir recently, had asked the banks to open 750 branches in Bihar. The CM has urged him that one bank branch should be opened in each panchayat and space for branch will be provided in the panchayat bhavan. The banks may now have one more incentive to open up rural branches in Bihar.
