Round the clock deployement of magistrates at Gandhi setu to ease traffic

Lets hope the normalcy is restored....

Government has finally appointed magistrates round the clock to work in shifts at both sides of Gandhi setu bridge to ease the traffic. It should be noted here that since the repair works of Rajendra setu, near Mokama has started some 3 months back, the traffic was diverted to Gandhi setu. The congestion increased by 50,000 to 57, 000 after this diversion.Gandhi setu had history of traffic jams due to unending repairs, and also due to bad driving sense. The added congestion in traffic on the bridge resulted in complete chaos and while it generally used to take max 30 minutes on a normal “Lucky day”. It started taking around 5-6 hours just to cross the bridge.

However only state government should not be blamed for the crisis there was no lane discipline and the speed limit regulations followed by the vehicles. It is expected that deployement of six magistrates to catch and punsh the miscreants on spot will ease the traffic. The agency handling toll plaza has also been given a warning to do their job properly and dont delay in issuing of tickets.

State government is also planning to adopt long term technique to handle the crisis. It includes:-

  1. Outsourcing private security guards with wireless handsets.
  2. Deputing them at different points on the bridge to monitor the braffic
  3. Diversion points to be blocked.
  4. CCTVs to be installed to identify and penalise speed limit violators.
  5. Seperate gate near toll plaza at Hazipur for VVIPs and emergency services, including ambulences.
  6. Two new gates and counters for toll collection.

Hopefully this will solve the problem, bihardays requests its readers to follow lane discipline and no overtaking thats the best way to minimise traffic jams.
