Patna: according to a recent report, the Tourism Department in Bihar will carry information on its website in a number of languages targeted at a wide range of tourists – Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and German, and more.

So far the web site content has been available only in English. Bihar also attracts tourists from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Tibet and Taiwan and these visitors’ needs will be catered to very soon. According to official sources, the IT Manager of BSTDC will launch the updated site on June 10.

Bihar has the following standard travel themes and circuits for which it gets a number of tourists from across the globe:

  1. The Buddhist circuit
  2. Ramayan circuit
  3. Sufi circuit
  4. Eco-tourism
  5. Gandhi circuit
  6. Rural circuit [our suggestion]

A suggestion or two here – first, the next target for BSTDC should be the Indian languages especially from South – Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. There is no reason why with increased security and good roads, Bihar cannot attract domestic tourists – the small hitch here may be the number of hotel rooms available in Bihar during the tourist seasons.

Second, as certain villages in Bihar get known for their developmental and agricultural success, BSTDC should also help in developing them as destinations. A good example may be Dharahra in Bhagalpur which would be interesting for the outside visitor for both ecological and social reasons, namely its practice of planting ten trees for every girl born!
